Doesn't Xero already work with ChatGPT or Claude?
Many apps now offer their own built-in connection to AI assistants, listed in ChatGPT and Claude as apps or connectors. One person switches it on, signs in, and their assistant can reach that one app.
As of October 2026, Xero offers its own connector in Claude, live since May 2026, and an app in ChatGPT since September 2026. Xero is also one of the apps in Anthropic's Claude for Small Business bundle. Both only look: Xero says Claude can't create, edit, approve, reconcile or pay anything in Xero.
So the question of changes is already settled. What a built-in connection doesn't know is your business: which accounts roll up into cost of goods, who should see the payroll lines, or how your accountant likes the month-end laid out.

What if our Xero file is a bit messy?
